Stephen Howes on Pacific Beat on PALM asylum seekers
Stephen Howes talks to Pacific Beat about the high number of Pacific Australia Labour Mobility scheme workers seeking asylum in Australia in recent years.
Howes says the rate, which could be as high as 8-9% of workers, imakes the scheme unsustainable. However it is understandable that workers would choose to apply as they can then access Medicare and choose their preferred employer in during the period of time it takes to process the claim.
