Dr. Hiroshi Matsushima is a Research Fellow at the Crawford School of Public Policy and holds an appointment with the Australia-Japan Research Centre. His research focuses on the effects of regulatory policies aimed at reducing fuel consumption and pollutant emissions in the transportation sector. Specifically, Hiroshi’s work examines how economic behaviours of auto manufacturers and consumers can inform the development of regulatory strategies that maximise environmental benefits while attaining economic efficiency.
Before joining the Crawford School, Hiroshi was an Economic Fellow at the Institute for Policy Integrity at New York University School of Law, where he specialised in analysing U.S. energy and environmental policies. Having previously served as an economist at the Bank of Japan and as chief of staff to a member of the House of Representatives of Japan, Hiroshi has a broad base of knowledge and experience in public policymaking.
