Captain Sean Andrews, PhD is a Senior Maritime Fellow at the National Security College and was most recently a Visiting Fellow at the Changing Character of War Centre at Oxford University, is an Associate Member of Kings College London, former Director of the Sea power Centre – Australia and the Founder of the Indo- Pacific’s Six Nation Maritime Working Group. Captain Andrews is a Principal Warfare Officer and Under Sea Warfare specialist and has enjoyed the full range of operational sea postings including Command.
Captain Andrews is a graduate of the Australian Command and Staff College, and the US Army Command and General Staff College Joint Advanced Warfighting School. Captain Andrews has embedded with United States forces, including the US Navy’s 7th Fleet and the US Army’s 10th Mountain Division, and has deployed extensively to all regions of contemporary maritime and joint operations including South China Sea, Indian and Pacific Oceans, Afghanistan, and the broader Middle East region, most recently as the Commander of the Australian Headquarters. Captain Andrews holds a PhD in International Relations, and his research specialises in International Relations (with a focus on Middle Powers), Maritime Strategy, Maritime Security, Naval and National Policy. Captain Andrews writes and presents internationally on issues of maritime character, and his book ‘Australia’s Maritime Domain: An Integrated Approach’ will be published in May 2024.
