Anthony Albanese flags plans to increase the PNG worker intake
Stephen Howes spoke to the Canberra Times about aims to increase Papua New Guinean workers’ participation in the Pacific Australia Labour Mobility (PALM) scheme.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese committed to backing the PNG government’s “ambition” in his address to the PNG parliament this week.
Howes told journalist Adrian Rollins that an increase in PNG’s participation in the labour mobility scheme was not only economically beneficial to both countries, but could be achieved without the “brain drain” issues raised by the participation of smaller Pacific island countries.
